The first time I swung a golf club was when I was a high school girl. I had the strength and stamina to hit the ball satisfactorily. I remember my father watching me and laughing, saying, “You’re going to be a prize winner.” Now that I have resumed golf as a hobby, my body does not move as well as I would like, and I find myself pathetically unable to hit the ball well. During one of my interviews, I asked a golf enthusiast for the secret to a good swing, and he told me, “If you grasp the earth with your toes and keep your axis steady, you can hit the ball with your eyes closed.” I was astounded by this bizarre idea. It is too dangerous for a beginner like me to practice with my eyes closed, but I have taken this one word to heart.
